Tools for Working on Optical Fibers

Fiber optics cables are characterized by high data transfer rates, reduced data loss, small dimensions and low weight, and the elimination of electromagnetic interference. Sophisticated data transfer systems increasingly rely on fiber optics for digital signal transmission. Depending on the application, two different types of optical fibers are used. Polymeric fibers are used for short distance transfer and installations in rough surroundings. Glass fibers are used for higher-quality and long distance data transfer.

Fiber optics cables offer data transmission rates of 100 GBit/sec at a bandwidth-length-product up to 1500 MHz x km. Branching to terminals is done by plug connectors. When working on optical fiber it is essential not to damage the fibers. The special pliers designed and manufactured by Rennsteig for cutting, stripping, crimping and releasing of optical fibers ensure exact stripping to the defined length without damage to polymeric fibers, and a firm crimping connection for both the conductor and insulation. For glass fibers, they provide safe opening of the multi-fiber tube without fiber damage.
